Could I press charges against someone for putting a quotation attributed to me which I never made?

Do you have very deep pockets? (I mean to hire the best of lawyers to pursue a "SLANDER" case) Most cases do not end with the "retraction of the lies" but with a large FINE - do your friends who say you said this have lots and lots of money to pay you the fine? If not drop the case, and get on with your life, and don't drink with these folks anymore!
